University of Colorado at Boulder – Anthony Le

VSA Member of the Year Nomination: Anthony Le

Why was this person selected as “Member of the Year” for your organization? What was the criteria to be a recipient of this award?

Anthony was selected to be “Member of the Year” for Boulder VSA because of this long career and commitment to progressing the mission of Boulder VSA. He has served as both a family leader and an executive board member for Boulder VSA. Even as a “retired” eboard member, he continued to be an active member who helped people feel welcomed in the community. He brings Boulder representation to the regional and continental level and constantly pushes other people to step out of their comfort zone. There is no one that better embodies the type of member that Boulder VSA strives to have in its community. Anthony Le has been an active Boulder VSA member for five years. He was Boulder VSA’s first Family Coordinator Position and a family leader from the 2014-2015 academic school year. This was the first year the the family program was implemented. Since then, Anthony Le has been an active member in the community. While he did not hold an official position during the 2017-2018 school year for Boulder VSA, he was CoRR for SWUVSA and thus bringing Boulder representation to the regional level. He was also Family Coordinator for Apex-3 and played a crucial role in motivating people to attend Apex-3. Boulder VSA’s representation at Apex increased from 1 person to having the second highest representation at Apex-3 because of Anthony Le. Informally, Anthony Le helps new/shy members transition into the community. Due to the size of the community, it can be intimidating to join Boulder VSA. However, Anthony is always able to make new members feel welcomed. He is often the go to person for Eboard members to introduce to new members. Transitioning into college is difficult and Anthony significantly helps with that process. He also received the first Boulder VSA Member of the Month in recognition of the impact that he has had on this community.

Describe the roles the nominee has held in his/her community and how these roles have influenced your organization. Provide examples.

2014-2015 Family Leader:
Helped implement the very first family program that built the foundation for what Boulder VSA is today. Due to the success of the program, Boulder VSA gave a “Lightning Talk” at UNAVSA-12 about the family program. That year, Anthony had one of the most successful families. this success led Anthony to be elected as Boulder VSA’s first Family Program Coordinator.
2015-2016 Family Program Coordinator:
Anthony served as a pioneer for the family program
These positions set Anthony up to be a respected and influential member within Boulder VSA. This past year, though he did not hold an official position for Boulder VSA, played a big factor in encouraging members to attend Apex-3 and UNAVSA-15. He brings Boulder representation to the regional and continental level and continued to be an active member. His qualifications for this award extends beyond his official leadership roles. The impact he has had on the Boulder VSA community cannot be measured simply by a list of his positions for Boulder VSA, SWUVSA, and UNAVSA.

What qualities does the nominee have that makes him/her stand out within your organization? Provide examples.

He is both a confident for people seeking advise/consultation and the wittiest person I know. He is an OG and unlike most Eboard members, did not fall off the community after stepping down from Eboard. He continued his informal role as an active member and was recognized as the first VSA Member of the Month this past academic year for his service and commitment to Boulder VSA. Without Anthony Le, Boulder VSA would have had half the people it did at Apex-3.
